ALMOST HERE!
THE SERPENT SOURCE BOOK
dUE TO EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES, THE serpent source book HAS BEEN Delayed, but it is coming!
Why the long wait?
There are some projects THAT SHOULD REALLY BE DONE CORRECTLY, this is one of them
WHAT IS GOING ON?
-I am including NEW translated sources recently discovered in France and Belgium.
-I am adding additional original serpent music transcribed from the method books.
-NEW music is making its way into this book.
I spent September and October 2021 back in Europe finishing my research, and unearthing a few last minute surprises in France and Belgium. These are being translated and included in the Serpent Source Book.
An additional trip back to Paris in late 2022 yielded some new additional finds which will also be included.
Q: Why is it taking so long?
A: Travel was greatly restricted during 2020 and 2021 which has limited my access to the original historical texts that are included in this book. It wasn’t until recently that I was able to return to Europe for the final photographing and copying of several important works.
Q: Will there be serpent music in this book?
A: YES, although originally limited, I have expanded the ‘serpent music section’ drawn from the original historic sources.
Q: Where will I be able to buy this book?
A: The Serpent Source Book will be globally available on Amazon.com (or the equivalent for your country).
WHAT IS THE
THE SERPENT SOURCE BOOK?
IT IS
a historical guide to playing serpent
based on the FRENCH METHODS
BUT WHAT IS IT REALLY?
The Serpent Source Book is a historical guide for playing the Serpent (instrument) based on translated French sources from around 1620 to 1860.
FUN FACT:
EVERYTHING YOU KNOW ABOUT TUBA PLAYING STARTED HERE!
This exciting project that has taken me to libraries around the world, seeking historical documents, sifting through and translating any Serpent related manuscripts and books.
My research uncovered a treasure trove of primary sources containing the teachings of the earliest low brass teachers. The Serpent Source Book will contain many of their methods completely translated into English and organized by subject for comparison on the fundamentals of embouchure, tonguing, fingering, ornamentation, air, technique and more. Etudes, duets, and solos by the teachers and leading composers of the day are to be included with each translated method.
Thank you for your patience!
